Feedback on Lady Striders volunteers at 2014 Bike For Your Life Cycle Tour

2014 Bike For Your Life Cycle TourI am a member of the volunteer committee that organizes the annual Bike For Your Life Cycle Tours in Salmon Arm and I coordinate volunteers at the 3 main Aid Stations.

At a recent committee meeting, I volunteered to email my feedback on how impressed our committee and I are with the efforts of volunteers from Lady Striders. As in past years, but especially in 2014, I was impressed with the number of Lady Striders volunteers, their enthusiasm and their friendliness while helping at the food area in Blackburn Park and at Aid Stations. Compared to numerous other events such as cycle tours and cross country ski loppets I have been in the southern interior of BC, the finish area activities at Blackburn Park involved more intense food preparation and handling such as the corn on the cob and hamburgers, in addition to the fruit and cookies. The wonderful array of tasty homemade cookies from Lady Striders volunteers were very popular with cyclists. The homemade cookies were much better than some of the food I have eaten in numerous other cycle tours and ski loppets I have been in. Most cyclists in this event I have talked to really liked the wonderful food and the ambience at Blackburn Park and at the aid stations. That will continue to draw more distant participants from Kelowna, Vernon and Kamloops, for example.

With good cycle tour routes, excellent food and notable donations to the Second Harvest Food Bank, this has been one of the best outdoor events I have participated in during my 27 years as a resident of Salmon Arm.
